WDBJ7 Talks About Mr. Bill’s 3rd Annual Fight Against Juvenile Diabetes!

Roanoke wine business raises money for the Juvenile Diabetes

Research Foundation

Proceeds from a local business’s wine sales are helping kids with diabetes.

Mr. Bill’s Wine Cellar on Brambleton Avenue is hosting a fundraiser to aid the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in the fight against juvenile diabetes.

For the last few years the store has featured specialty wine. Two dollars from each sale of those bottles go to raise money for research and a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

The store’s owner says the fundraiser is getting more successful each year.

“One of our good customers is involved with JDRF and she had approached me not long after we opened the store to see if we’d be willing to do something like this and we thought, yeah, thats a great thing,” owner Bill Philips said.

The wine is $8.99 per bottle.

The event goes until March 23rd.

Molly Dooker, “The Boxer” 2010 Australian Shiraz!

Notes from the Winery
Very deep black-crimson, The Boxer shows a full spectrum of flavours from fresh berries and plum, to fig and blackberry jam, surrounded by cinnamon spice, licorice, and lovely warm oak with hints of cigar box and tobacco. Soft luscious palate-coating fruit with incredible depth, combined with creamy chocolate oak layers producing a complex wine with amazing power.

Did you notice that The Boxer is a double Mollydooker?
The grapes were grown on the Longbottom vineyard in Padthaway, the Birchmore vineyard in Langhorne Creek and the Hunt Creek, Semmens and Mollydooker vineyards in McLaren Vale.

Barrel fermented and matured in 60% new and 40% one year old American oak.

Alc: 16%    Residual sugar: 2.6g/L

– Reviews –
Wine Advocate
‘Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 The Boxer Shiraz has notes of warm blackberries and blueberries with nuances of menthol, some spice cake, anise and bacon fat. Concentrated, big, rich and ripe, it offers a very spicy palate with some licorice and cumin seed coming through, supported by a medium level of velvety tannins, lively acidity and finishing very long. Drink it now to 2017+.’ – 91 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown,

Wine Spectator
‘Fresh and vibrant, this delivers a lively mouthful of dark cherry, mocha and bay leaf flavours that linger on the firm finish. Best after 2013. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.’ – Harvey Steiman,

Israel’s Hai Cabernet Sauvignon for Purim available at Mr. Bill’s Wine Cellar!

With Purim coming up this weekend, we wanted to remind you that we have a great Israeli Wine available at Mr. Bill’s Wine Cellar!

(Other Kosher wines available too!)

The opening of the Ella Valley Wineries brought back to the region a wine culture that was thousands of years old, with the help of 21st century tools and skills. The principles underlying the work of the founders of the Winery were to produce excellent wine, relying on the unique qualities and conditions of the area; and for the wine to be kosher, which would enable its dissemination to large publics in Israel and across the world. The Ella Valley Wineries are considered one of the best and most advanced in Israel, with a production of over 200,000 bottles a year, all of which are premium quality wines. Approximately 40 of the production is exported, which is unprecedented in Israel’s wine industry. Dark, well extracted and concentrated, medium/full bodied. Aromas of dark forest fruit, black cherry, cassis, cigar box. Great structure, round and velvety smooth on the palate, beautiful tannins well balanced with excellent length on the finish.–Winemaker Note
