Wildfires Effect on West Coast Vineyards

As if 2020 hasn’t been hard enough on Wineries… they now have to monitor the wildfires, and the effects the smoke could have on their harvests.

Earlier this year, domestic wineries were forced to close due to Covid-19 to limit the number of people congregating. No doubt, this hurt business- this meant no income from visitors buying wine to drink on their property, no one buying bottles directly from the wineries to take home, no weddings or events, no food sales, no merch sales…. they instantly fell into silence. Of course, they could still distribute their wines and had some sales from that, but their losses were already detrimental.

Now, the smoke from the wildfires is in question as to how it will effect their harvests this year. Check out these articles from Food & Wine, and Wine Spectator to read other opinions.
